About the Catholic Women’s League
How do I become a member?
All women, age 16 and up, are invited to take out membership in the Catholic Women’s League of Canada through their local parish. We offer both regular memberships for Catholic women, and Associate memberships for non-Catholics.
From the Catholic Women’s League National site:
The Catholic Women’s League of Canada (the League) was organized nationally on June 17, 1920 and granted federal incorporation on December 12, 1923. The League is officially recognized by the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) as a lay association of women and is affiliated with the World Union of Catholic Women’s Organizations (WUCWO), a world-wide federation holding membership in the conference of International Catholic Organizations (ICO) and having consultative status with agencies of the United Nations.
An invitation is extended to all women to purchase a membership in the Catholic Women’s League of Canada. By doing so you will be:
- supporting the efforts of League members across Canada who are diligently working to promote the teachings of the Catholic church.
- part of the largest national organization of Catholic women in Canada with a tradition of service to others as expressed in its motto “For God and Canada.”
The Catholic Women’s League of Canada is an organization that contributes to the life and vitality of the church, family and community, both at home and abroad. While your presence at meetings is important, we realize that in this busy world it may not always be possible for you to attend. Be assured that your interest and support is as important as your attendance!
Included in your membership is The Canadian League magazine (published quarterly) which will keep you informed of League business and projects and in contact with other members across Canada.
For more details about the League, including links to articles from our magazine, please visit the National CWL site or our Provincial (BC/Yukon) site.
Who can attend the Diocesan general meetings?
Diocesan general meetings are open to all CWL members. There are usually 4 general meetings per year; two in the fall, and two in the spring. In addition, Diocesan Convention is held in early May each year and all members are encouraged to attend.
Where do I find Resolutions?
Resolutions that have been accepted at the National level are found on the Catholic Women’s League National site. Resolutions that only pertain to provincial matters are found on the Catholic Women’s League Provincial website.
Both of these sites provide information regarding actions to be taken.
